Thanks to all of our volunteers, supporters and visitors for a great 2011. The new year will see a mile of rebuilt track and a growing and dynamic group of volunteers. Now is the time to make your annual donation to the museum so we can continue forward! We wish you a happy holiday season and here's to a safe and rewarding 2012!
A federal and state funded project to upgrade a large portion of the track to allow for future electrification has begun. HDR Inc. was selected for the design and engineering phase of the project. This month, meetings were held at the museum and at City Hall to begin the engineering work for the project. During the Winter or early Spring, there will be a bid process to select a contractor for the actual construction.
The federal grant was first announced in 2009. With a 10% state match, this brings the total project to about $860,000. Please see articles in the Mid Hudson News and the Daily Freeman. Updated December 2011

Authors William H. Ewen Jr. (Steamboats on the Hudson River) with Steve Ladin and Glendon Moffett (Ulster County Railroads) were at the museum on November 12 to talk about and sign copies of their books.
The museum hosted a hole
for the Nutcracker Open Mini Golf fundraiser for the Catskill Ballet Theatre on November 13.
Refreshments were served while people took on our uniquely challenging hole.

As a result of the IBM Centennial Year Day of Service back on May 20 where 55 IBMer's volunteered their time at the museum, this qualified for a larger IBM Community Service grant than usual. At a recent informal ceremony at IBM Poughkeepsie attended by many of the IBMer's who volunteered on May 20, museum representatives Jon McGrew, Dave Lowrie and Evan Jennings were presented a check for $5,000.
Thank you IBM and all the IBM volunteers who helped make this possible! August 2011
We had a good turnout from our new volunteers for the August 13 safety and rules class. In the afternoon four motorman trainees had practice time operating car 358. August 2011
June 4 was River Day along the Hudson River. Our neighbor, the Hudson River Maritime Museum, hosted a day of activities and tours of the sailing ship Half Moon. At 5PM, the schooner Clearwater docked. The Trolley Museum operated 358 until 6PM.
Jon McGrew arranged for us to have a table at the Rhinecliff Waterfront Day. Jon put in a full day, loading materials in the morning, setup at the site, hosting the table, and then cleanup at the end of the day. Dave Giles also helped.
Kingston Land Trust had another cleanup day on the museum's unused upper right of way. Pictures here (external site). June 2011
Wow! 55 IBM employees and retirees descended on the Trolley Museum on May 20th and accomplished more in a few hours than would have normally been possible over weeks if not months. The IBMers helped lay sod, mulch, pick up dead brush, organize parts, build a planter, paint a locomotive, clean a subway car and a number of smaller projects. These are all projects that improve the appearance and safety of the museum as well as improve the experience of the visiting public. Click here for more pictures. May 2011
April 30 was a busy day.
The City of Kingston sponsored a Clean Sweep
encouraging neighborhoods to clean up by providing extra dumpsters and trash pickup service.
In particular, the Kingston Land Trust organized a cleanup of the museum's upper right of way near Rondout Savings Bank.
Meanwhile on the same day in the museum yards, restoration work was done on the R-16 car and a track crew replaced several ties near the front entrance.
Pictures are posted on our volunteer page. May 2011
In mid-July 2010, work began on the construction of a new façade for the museum building. The plans include several improvements to building access and security, such as new interior and exterior stairs, raised doors and new windows.
The funding for this project is through a grant received from the New York Department of State administered by the City of Kingston.
The final piece of the project installed a new gutter and drainage system on the south face of the building. The project is now complete! Dec. 2010
The area of the causeway surrounding our trolley stop at Kingston Point has received erosion repairs under a Federal Emergency Management Administration grant secured by the City of Kingston.
As part of the project, all the low brush at the end of the causeway has been cut down and hauled away. Landscape plantings to further improve the appearance completed the project.
The Daily Freeman has an August 22 article and video giving project status. The original article describing the project is here. Dec. 2010
