Causeway erosion repairs ahead of schedule

The area of the causeway surrounding our trolley stop at Kingston Point is receiving erosion repairs under a Federal Emergency Management Administration grant secured by the City of Kingston. The Daily Freeman has an August 22 article and video giving project status. The original article describing the project is here. August 2010 9 thumb

Paint!

One of the museum goals for 2010 is to paint all the outside equipment. This will improve the appearance of the yard, not to mention help protect the cars. Over the past few weeks, the following have had some painting done on them: 9, 825, 3204, 6398. The painting is by no means complete on these cars, but it is a start! It takes time and effort to prepare a surface to be painted in addition to the painting itself. August 2010

Daily Freeman coverage of the latest museum projects

The Daily Freeman has an article about the museum facade and causeway erosion repair projects. It includes a short video with both Steve Finkle and Steve Ladin talking about the projects. August 2010

Museum building facade construction starts

the facade plans
In mid-July, work began on the construction of a new facade for the museum building. The plans also include several improvements to building access and security, such as new interior and exterior stairs, raised doors and new windows.

The funding for this project is through a grant received from the New York Department of State administered by the City of Kingston.

We realize you can't see much information from the shrunk-down plan included here, but you'll be impressed with the uplift in the museum appearance when the project is done in a few weeks! brick sample

Aug 1 Update

A small sample of the brick to be used on the project was installed. You can see the building's existing grey masonary above the sample.

A play is performed in the R-16 subway car!

A controversial play written in the 1960's and set in a subway car is performed in a subway car at TMNY. The Dutchman has been staged many times across the country over the years, but this is believed to be the first time it was performed within an actual subway car. Museum President Jon McGrew attended the performance and gives his report here. June 2010

Thanks for a great Give a Day, Get a Disney Day program!

March 20 thumb We've had great turnouts! There have been four work days for people who signed up at Disneyparks.com in the Give a Day, Get a Disney Day program to volunteer at TMNY. Pictures are on the volunteer page.

Nationwide, Disney's program to encourage volunteerism has been a rousing success since it opened on January 1, 2010. In fact, the program limit of 1 Million registrants was met by the first week of March.

We invite people visiting a Disney park with their free pass to please send us photos of your trip! Updated June 2010

Federal earmark for Kingston track upgrades approved

Thanks to U. S. Senator Schumer, $779,200 has been allocated to the City of Kingston to upgrade the trolley tracks. Please see articles in the Mid Hudson News and the Daily Freeman. This project will rebuild a portion of our track to improve the museum's trolley service to the waterfront and allow for eventual electrification. Posted Dec. 2009, updated August 2010
