Halloween at the Trolley Museum

October 31, 2009, 1-4PM.

El Diablo, the headless motorman will be haunting the Trolley Museum Car Barn on Halloween, Saturday October 31st starting at 1PM until the ghouls start flying (at 4PM).

El Diablo will come out in the daylight disguised in the invaded body of young motorman Allen Hughes. El Diablo will operate the trolley, but don't come on board if you can't stand the sight of a human being who has been possessed by deranged spirits.

Take heart and be brave. Lucky Beckett, the valiant red golden retriever is there to protect you.

But don't come expecting a treat. No, no, El Diablo and his henchmen will trick you, and then trick you again. Hold on to your treats, or alas, you may lose them.

Come dressed in a disguise for protection and a free ride. Use ghastly colors on the drawing below to satisfy El Diablo's rantings and ravings.

Temre Stanchfield
Process of Transition

Opening Reception, Saturday, July 4th from 5 - 8 PM
Donskoj & Company Gallery, 93 Broadway, Kingston, NY

Temre Stanchfield will be showing her paintings as part of the Artist in Residence program of the Trolley Museum at the Donskoj & Company Gallery for the month of July. Opening on July 4th with a reception for the artist from 5-8pm

Temre is the second Artist-in-Residence at the Trolley Museum. The focus of her work for the residency is the interpretation of Kingston Point Park. The Park is the destination of the trolley ride from downtown Kingston. It is a beautiful park with much history; it has gone through several transformations, and continues to evolve. A re-creation of the old Day Liner terminal and a trolley terminal are in the design/planning stages.

Steve Ladin, the director of the Trolley Museum is pleased to have Temre Stanchfield as the 2009 Artist-in-Residence. He says, Temre's paintings evoke feelings that I'm sure we all have about the park - feelings that lie just beneath our consciousness which we can experience if we give ourselves the chance.

Temre Stanchfield a native of Alaska had recently moved to Kingston by way of Arizona, has called her show Process of Transition. Her initial interest was to focus on Kingston Point Park's historic significance but the enormity of the park's transitional physical state from past to present, from winter to summer began to take hold. She says of her work, I have chosen scenes, which imply the fertility of this natural form of rejuvenation along with the human presence in the park as it is today. The contrast of the rugged landscape with its history as a tame garden interests me in its duality and further is metaphoric for the relationship of human development and nature. In developing this body of work, the physical act of painting transformed photographic images from relatively literal scenes to a more metaphoric paint marks and use of color. Allowing the paint to drip, blend, and move around as the inherent visceral material that it is, has amplified this transformation.

Donskoj & Company Gallery is open on Friday, Saturday, 1-6pm and by appointment. For more information call 845-338-8473 or visit their website, www.donskoj.com.

Kingston to open Sunday Flea Market

KINGSTON—The Sunday Morning Flea Market will open for the season Sunday, June 7, 2009 and will run weekly through September in Kingston's Historic Rondout Waterfront.

Vendors from all over the region will be displaying their wares in the Trolley Museum, just off East Strand in the Waterfront area.

Antiquers, weekenders, families and friends will peruse and hunt for hidden treasures amid the collectibles, toys, vintage wares, furniture, art and antiques.

Proceeds from the table rentals after expenses will be donated to the not-for-profit Rondout Business Association to help fund the family events that have had to be canceled because of the City of Kingston's scaled-back budget, including the Mardi Gras parade, the Waterfront Festival and Taste of the Rondout. The RBA needs to raise about $6,000 for the Taste of Italy food festival scheduled for Oct. 12, 2009.

For more information, call Sue Schreter at 338-6679.
