KINGSTON—Ian Gordon, an artist from County Donegal, Ireland, will be creating paintings of and about the Trolley Museum of New York during his visit this summer in Kingston. Ian's subjects will be: riders of the trolley; visitors and volunteers of the Trolley Museum; Kingston residents and cityscapes; and the historic trolleys in the Museum's collection.
Ian is no stranger to Kingston's community of artists. He has been a participant of the Ulster to Ulster Artists Exchange program, visiting Kingston twice, and hosting artists from Ulster County in his home and studio in Dun Lewie on Ireland's northwest coast.
Ian's residency will culminate in an exhibition, of his newly created work, in the Donskoj Gallery during the month of July. There will be an opening reception for the artist on Saturday, July 5th from 5 - 8PM.
Contact Steve Ladin at the Trolley Museum for details of Ian's visit, including a slide presentation of his work and his fellow artists back home in Ireland.

KINGSTON—The Trolley Museum of New York invites the public to celebrate National Trails Day at the Trolley Museum of New York on Kingston's historic waterfront.
The main activity will be a clean-up and beautification of the trolley track right-of-way going from the downtown waterfront out to Kingston Point. This will be an on-going activity throughout the day.
There will be a free lunchtime barbecue for the volunteers. The trolley will be used as the transport vehicle for the volunteers and tools.
The planning to create a linear park/multi use non-motorized trail running adjacent to the tracks has started. This 1.5 mile section, located within the city limits of Kingston, is a unique and beautiful space. The Rondout Creek and Hudson River are on one side of the causeway, and a lagoon/nature sanctuary on the other side. The causeway ends at Kingston Point Park, an exemplary example of a 19th park landscape design by Downing Vaux, son of the co-designer of Central Park, Calvert Vaux.

KINGSTON— The Trolley Museum of New York invites the public to attend the opening reception of two exhibitions, Kingston Trolleys, 1893 - 1930 and Kingston Point Park, 1897 - 1930. Both exhibitions illustrate a bygone era of historic Kingston through antique postcards and photographs.
Glen Moffett, Trolley Museum Trustee and curator of both exhibitions says:
We have tried to tell the story of Kingston's Trolley system which stopped operating in 1930.
None of
Kingston's trolleys have survived;
all we have left is evidence of the tracks and tunnels around town.
During this era, Kingston Point Park was a wondrous place.
Seeing these beautiful scenes of life and landscape transports us back in time.
We hope our exhibition inspires and informs us about our beautiful city.

There is a suggested donation of $5 which includes entry to the Museum, the barbecue, and a ride on Johnstown Trolley 358 to Kingston Point Park and back.

KINGSTON, NY, MARCH 1, 2007— The Trolley Museum of New York is pleased to announce that it has hired Steve Ladin as its first Administrator. Steve comes to the Museum with extensive experience in the not-for-profit sector of arts and events management, having worked for the Dutchess County Arts Council, the Hudson Valley Philharmonic Orchestra, the Bard Music Festival and Ulster County Community College. He has worked on projects with the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, Scenic Hudson, and the Hudson Valley Rail-Trail Association. He recently served on the Board of Directors of the Arts Society of Kingston and was Managing Director/Curator of the 2005 Kingston Sculpture Biennial.
Among Steve's initial responsibilities will be to recruit new volunteers for current, on-going programs and to develop and initiate projects designed to enhance the quality of museum services offered to the Mid-Hudson region and beyond. Steve says of his role: "For a city of Kingston's size, the arts and cultural infrastructure is quite extensive. The arts community has made great strides in being recognized throughout the region as a center for creative activity. I think of the Trolley Museum of New York as an 'unpolished industrial diamond'. Polishing this diamond is the role I see for myself and for the Trustees of the Museum. The Trolley Museum is very much a part of Kingston's rich historic legacy, and we look forward to our role in enhancing the cultural and historic landscape of our wonderful city."
There is a need for more volunteers throughout the year in all capacities. People interested in volunteering should contact Steve at (845) 331-3399. Steve's regular hours at the museum are weekly Wednesday to Saturday from 10 am - 3:30 pm.
The museum begins its regular seasonal schedule of rides to the public on May 26, 2007, open Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays from Memorial Day weekend to Columbus Day, Noon to 5PM. The museum offers rides on a historic trolley from the foot of Broadway at Kingston's waterfront to Kingston Point Park. The Trolley Museum has a visitors center and gift shop. For more information, visit the museum's web pages at www.tmny.org.
