Recreational Trails Program grant

The 'mini-park' area of the railroad causeway on the Hudson River is being rebuilt under a federal Recreational Trails Program grant. Local match funding was also provided by the Hudson River Improvement Fund, the City of Kingston, and the Trolley Museum of New York.

Major work began in earnest in October, 2001 with the track reconstruction phase of the project. When work began, the trolley ride stopped about 500' short of the previous stop. In August 2002, the new track was completed up to the loading ramp again.

After the initial track work is complete, the causeway will restored to its early 1900's width. There will be new landscaping and signs. The loading platform will be moved 500' further out from its current location on the causeway, putting it just a few steps from the bridge connecting to Kingston Point Park. As of August 2002, there is still about 200' of track to construct.
