Federal earmark for Kingston track upgrades approved
Thanks to U. S. Senator Schumer, $779,200 has been allocated to upgrade the trolley tracks in Kingston.
The spending bill approved by the House and Senate in December now awaits the President's signature.
Please see articles in the Mid Hudson News
and the
Daily Freeman.
This project will improve the museum's trolley service to the waterfront and allow for eventual electrification.

More storage
The museum purchased a 40' storage container.
Over the past few weeks it was delivered to a back area of the yard,
volunteers leveled the container and a contractor helped build a ramp leading into it.
This will be used to store infrequently used materials and supplies so that more space can be freed in the main building.

Thanks for a great Santa Run!
Mother Nature supplied a brisk snowy day for the annual Santa Run, held Dec. 5, 2009 at the Trolley Museum.
But that didn't deter the people riding with Santa on four enjoyable round trips of the trolley from Broadway to Kingston Point Park.
Now that scheduled operations have ended for 2009 at the museum,
we would like to thank everyone who volunteered throughout the year.
Several important projects were undertaken this past year,
such as the start of the facade project,
the deaccession and parting out of several cars that couldn't be restored,
the purchase and setup of a 40' storage container,
the continued cleanup of the yard and inside the shop.
The list goes on and on, but it was all made possible by volunteers!
Let's keep the momentum going for 2010!
As weather permits,
the trolley will still make occasional runs through the off-season for Motorman training or otherwise
taking advantage of good weather.

Museum building concept
From 1987 to 1990, the Trolley Museum constructed the building that currently houses the Visitors Center, offices, shop and up to eight trolley cars.
The limited budget at the time resulted in the plain grey masonry brick that we still have today.
Thanks to a grant from the New York Department of State,
an architectural firm has been hired to design a facade that will be more in character with the historic district.
This drawing is just an early concept,
but we thought you'd like to see what might be possible.
This initial design shows many features that may not be affordable,
so the next step is to cost out and prioritize construction elements.
This design project is one in a series of grants that New York State has applied to the Kingston Waterfront.
Public meetings are held on a regular basis in Kingston City Hall to keep residents up-to-date on the progress along the Waterfront.
The most recent public meeting was held Nov. 18, 2009.
